Most bookstores and many talk show hosts devote space and time to the subject of mindfulness and/or the beginner’s mind. But what is it and how does it relate to you? In our ever-frenetic world of cell phones and work, could making art help our mind achieve some stillness?

We will look at how the creative process has a way of quieting the overpowering noise of our intellectually dominant left-brain so that our demure more holistic right-brain can get a word in. By stopping the incessant chatter of the mind, we can be more present and focused on the here and now. Having a beginner’s mind, we look at life with fresh eyes while concentrating on something outside of our wandering thoughts. This focus helps us to be more in touch with ourselves and better able to cope with our challenges.
